*Learners have 2 choices to undertake the driving assessment (Test). We recommend you take at least some lessons with a driving instructor first, to be sure you are ready for the test.

1. Choose and book a testing officer through a driving school. It must not be the same person, who gave driving lessons. There are various specified starting points.

2. Undertake log book training. After working through the required tasks (log book) your instructor will conduct a driving assessment. The Government must be notified in advance. They may choose to have an auditing officer accompany the test. If satisfied, he or she issues the documentation to obtain your probationary driver's license. This assessment is usually conducted from the student's home address, but another specified place may be chosen.

A minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving is required (by either method), before undertaking a driving assessment. Hours driven must be written into a record book. Some country driving, high speed and night time driving practice must be included.
