Don’t speak too soon

 (A mostly true story).

Mrs. L. had been learning for a number of years. She had already failed four driving tests and was just returning into the car park of the Motor Registration office at the conclusion of her fifth try.

The examiner, who knew her well from previous attempts, was very pleased with her this time. But he made a professional mistake. Just before the vehicle had come to a total stop he exclaimed: “Well, Mrs. L. you finally made it”!

The elderly lady suddenly got excited. She promptly jumped onto the accelerator, instead of the brake.

Before the examiner could apply the dual brake, she had run into the kerb. Naturally, under the circumstances, Mrs. L. failed again. If words could be erased, just like those on a keyboard, I bet this red-faced examiner would have done so.

Rumour has it that after 10 years Mrs. L. is still thinking of taking another test at a different Test station.
