One of the basic rules of driving is: Look into the space you are entering!

When reversing, this rule is just as important. It must even be extended to read: Look into the space you are entering, while you are entering it. In an instant, the empty space behind could become occupied by another vehicle or pedestrian. Basic techniques for reversing straight or left:

A MATTER OF VIEWPOINT
Reversing “Don’t reverse any further,” may be the advice of a cautious passenger.
